On Tuesday afternoon, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had talks by telephone with Sir Suma Chakrabarti, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.
The topic of the conversation was the global economic crisis which has emerged due to the coronavirus epidemic.
Mr Orbán informed the President of the EBRD of the Hungarian economy protection action plan in detail, Mr Havasi said, adding that by Sir Suma Chakrabarti’s account, the EBRD is in ongoing communication with banks that also have interests in Hungary, and based on the feedback received, it is possible to conclude that Hungary is managing the crisis professionally and successfully.
In the bank president’s opinion, Hungary is one of the two Member States in the European Union where the lowest economic decline is expected in the wake of the coronavirus epidemic.
