Prime Minister Viktor Orbán responded in a message to criticisms levelled by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe at the Hungarian government. Marija Pejcinovic Buric voiced concerns in a letter written on Tuesday in connection with the legislative process under way in Hungary in the context of the coronavirus state of danger, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI on Thursday morning.
The Hungarian Prime Minister asked the Secretary General to study the exact text of the proposed legislation currently lying before Parliament, and to also look into similar legal practices of other states, the press chief said.
“If you are not able to help us in the current crisis, please at least refrain from hindering our defensive efforts,” Mr Orbán wrote concluding his message to the Council of Europe Secretary General.
