Bertalan Havasi, the head of the Press Office of the Prime Minister, has informed kormany.hu that on Tuesday evening Prime Minister Viktor Orbán travelled from the Warsaw summit of the Visegrád Four (V4) to Malta, where he is attending the congress of the European People’s Party (EPP), of which Fidesz is also a member.
The EPP family of parties is holding its congress in the Mediterranean island state on Wednesday and Thursday.
Heads of state and government from parties within the EPP will also have one-to-one talks in Malta.
EPP spokesperson Siegfried Mureșan said earlier that the People’s Party is seeking to adopt a decision on settlement of the migration crisis; this will urge that all asylum-seekers should await assessment of their applications outside Europe – in their countries of origin or in refugee centres set up outside the EU’s borders.
The attendees at the Maltese congress of the European centre-right parties’ umbrella organisation will also seek to adopt a decision on strengthening cooperation between Member States’ police forces and intelligence services.
