Prime Minister-President of Fidesz Viktor Orbán congratulated Norbert Hofer in a letter on his election with a large majority as President of the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ).

“You are officially taking over the baton as party president at a time when both Europe and our countries are facing trying challenges. It is enough to mention the continent’s ever diminishing global economic role or the threat of migration at our borders,” Prime Minister Viktor Orbán wrote according to the information of his press chief Bertalan Havasi.

“Taking this opportunity to confirm what we discussed at our recent meeting in person, I sincerely hope that the strategic cooperation between Fidesz – Hungarian Civic Union and the Freedom Party of Austria, which rested on firm foundations also in the past, will continue in the future, and that we will be able to maintain our friendly relations resting on mutual trust and Christian-conservative values,” the Hungarian Prime Minister wrote in his letter.

At the congress of FPÖ held at the weekend in Graz, more than 98 per cent of delegates voted to elect Norbert Hofer, who previously served as temporary leader of the party, as official president.
