On Tuesday Bertalan Havasi, head of the Press Office of the Prime Minister, informed Hungarian news agency MTI that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had sent greetings for the Jewish New Year to representatives of the Hungarian Jewish community.
The Prime Minister wrote to the presidents of the Federation of Hungarian Jewish Communities (MAZSIHISZ), the Jewish Heritage of Hungary Public Endowment (MAZSOK), and the Hungarian Autonomous Orthodox Jewish Community (MAOIH), and the Executive Rabbi of the Unified Hungarian Jewish Congregation (EMIH). In his letter he wrote the following: “As always, when the old is replaced with the new, and the new year steps in to replace the old year, we take stock. We assess the past year and review our plans”.
Mr. Orbán continued thus: “Hungary’s government is working for a future in which we are connected by important things: our homeland, our nation, the love of our family, a respect for religious traditions, and legitimate self-defence against external threats. To mark the Jewish New Year, I send respectful salutations to you and the Hungarian Jewish community celebrating this occasion. May the coming year in which all your names are entered be a good one.”
