Prime Minister Viktor Orbán greeted Hungarians outside the borders of Hungary on the national day marking the 1848-49 revolution in a letter – Press Chief of the Prime Minister’s Office Bertalan Havasi informed kormany.hu.

In the letter that was read out at a number of celebrations across the Carpathian Basin on Sunday, the Prime Minister wrote that after long years of oppression, 15 March 1848 showed what a spirited and courageous nation the Hungarians are. At the Spring of Nations there was only one country where the watch fire of freedom did not extinguish within seconds.

Mr Orbán emphasised that the Hungarian message of freedom was sounded in Pest on the steps of the National Museum, but it echoed throughout our entire homeland.
We still believe that the Hungarian freedom can only be won by the Hungarians: through solidarity, work and reconciliation – the Prime Minister underlined in his letter.

The message of the Prime Minister is available in Hungarian and English under the attached file.
