In response to a question from public television channel M1 on Sunday, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that there will be no military conscription in Hungary.
As a number of media outlets had announced the introduction of military conscription as a fact – referring to a statement by Speaker of the House László Kövér – the Prime Minister was also asked whether the issue has led to a dispute between Mr. Kövér and the Government. Mr. Orbán said that there is no dispute, as this is not what the Speaker had said.
The Prime Minister also emphasised that the issue of military service is not and will not be on the agenda of the Cabinet meeting.
Mr. Orbán stressed that “we are not seeking to address this issue – not now, or later. In Hungary we do not intend to open this subject”.
