Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Bishop of Erbil Mar Abris Youkhanan discussed Hungary’s tasks and duties as part of the global Christian community during their meeting on Thursday in the Parliament Building, the Prime Minster’s Press Chief, Bertalan Havasi informed the kormany.hu government news portal.

At the meeting, which was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén and Minister of Human Capacities Zoltán Balog, the parties determined that the reinforcement of Hungary’s and Europe’s’ Christian roots is not possible without also caring for ancients, eastern Christian communities.

Hungary does not want to assist persecuted eastern Christians in an impersonal manner, and this is why it decided to provide assistance directly to communities in need, rather than via large international organisations.

Recent results have shown that the solution, according to which assistance must be taken to where people are suffering need and persecution instead of bringing the trouble here, and which is now also being followed by many others, is successful. Hungarian funding has already helped thousands of Middle-Eastern Christians to remain in the land of their birth and not have to live their lives as refugees.
