Press Chief of the Prime Minister’s Office Bertalan Havasi has told Hungarian News Agency MTI that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will attend the fourth Nuclear Security Summit in Washington on 31 March.
In 2009 Barack Obama initiated the first nuclear summit, with the aim of promoting better security for nuclear materials and facilities. It was held in Washington the following year.
The last nuclear security summit – which took place in The Hague two years ago – was attended by some fifty countries, but only thirty-five committed to incorporating the International Atomic Energy Agency’s nuclear security guidelines into their own legislation. Russia, China, India and Pakistan were among those which did not make such a commitment.
