According to Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács, the full-page advert published by the Hungarian Government in the British tabloid the Daily Mail in support of the United Kingdom’s continued membership of the European Union generated a considerable response because Hungary’s standpoint has “gained importance” recently and the Hungarian Prime Minister’s opinion on the issue “bears weight”.
The Hungarian Government will publish a paid advertisement in the British press on Monday arguing in favour of Britain’s continued EU membership, Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács confirmed the German press reports to this effect upon speaking to the Hungarian news agency MTI.
In an interview with public television channel M1 on Thursday, Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács said that migration-related information at different ministries must be harmonised in order to enable Hungary to effectively represent its interests in Brussels. He was referring to the establishment of a working group on migration, announced by the Minister in charge of the Prime Minister’s Office.
“The working group on migration will be tasked with summarising and preparing decisions on all aspects of migration, meaning it could also deal with the EU quota system, the Hungarian quota referendum and even Brexit”, the Government Spokesperson said on Hungarian public television on Monday.
In Brussels on Monday Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács told an international press conference that European migration policy must be revised, since the EU is currently defenceless. It is not enough to manage illegal migration, Mr. Kovács said: it must be stopped.
On Thursday Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács told public television channel M1 that the aim of the southern border barrier has not changed: it must still prevent migrants from entering the European Union’s territory illegally, without being controlled.
Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács announced at the 53rd Governmentinfo press conference that another incident occurred on Thursday in Kiskunhalas: an Algerian man resisted the police when they tried to present him for a hearing, and the 27-year-old man attacked an armed guard.
“The number of refugees arriving in Europe last autumn increased significantly following Germany’s announcement on receiving them and so Hungary is not responsible for the situation”, Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács said at the Hungarian Embassy on Monday in Vienna at a background discussion with representatives of the Austrian and other foreign media.
On Friday Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács told public television channel M1 that the European Commission has not taken into account any of the developments before launching an infringement procedure against Hungary over segregation of Roma children in schools.
