At their informal meeting in Milan on Friday, foreign ministers from the European Union’s Member States called for more effective sanctions against Russia, urging Moscow to act responsibly.
Csaba Hende and Raimonds Vejonis, the Ministers of Defence of the two countries signed an agreement on Thursday in Budapest on the development of military cooperation between Hungary and Latvia.

The Government is putting the 2013 Budget Discharge Act before the National Assembly. 2013 was the year of budget stability and of a growth upturn. Thanks to budgetary discipline, last year was the third year in a row in which the budget deficit remained under 3 percent. In June 2013, Hungary freed itself from the nine-year excessive deficit procedure, which was the fault of previous socialist governments, and in August it repaid the country’s IMF loan ahead of schedule. In addition, all this was achieved while the country succeeded in realising new economic growth, the economy set off on a permanent growth trajectory, government debt diminished and the burdens of both families and employees were reduced.

This summer, the internationally acclaimed, state-sponsored Erzsébet Programme enabled 55,000 children to have a summer holiday in vacation camps, Minister of State for Social and Family Affairs Katalin Novák said at a press conference on Thursday in Balatonberény, at one of the summer camps in participating in the Programme.
The Government hopes that the success of the Kadarkút-Nagybajom microregion social inclusion programme, which received European Union funding of some 600 million forints (EUR 1.9 million) and was aimed at helping disadvantaged children, should mean that further EU funding should be forthcoming for the continuation of this and similar programmes, Minister of State for Social Affairs and Inclusion Károly Czibere said at a press conference on Wednesday in Kadarkút, South Transdanubia.
The BuSho (Budapest Short) International Short Film Festival will be organised with the aid of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade between 2 and 7 September 2014; the festival will be opened by the patron of the event, Monika Balatoni, State Secretary for Cultural Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade at the Puskin Cinema on Tuesday evening. A toast will be given at the venue by Géza M. Tóth, the rector of the University of Theatre and Film Arts and last year’s president of the jury.
