Hungary’s GDP grew by almost 4 percent in Q2 2014

In Q2 2014, Hungary’s GDP was up by 3.9 percent in comparison to the corresponding period of the previous year, the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on the basis of preliminary data. This has been the highest quarterly GDP growth figure since Q1 2016. Compared to Q1 2014, GDP increased by 0.8 percent.

Government spends record amount on summer meals for children

The number of children receiving government-funded summer meals is up ten percent from last year and the Hungarian Government has spent 2.64 billion forints (EUR 8.4 million) on the summer catering programme for children, Minister of State for Social Affairs and Inclusion Károly Czibere said on Wednesday.

Industrial sector continues to deliver excellent results

Adding to the outstanding performance registered in the previous month, industrial output growth in June 2014 increased by 11.3 percent year-on-year. In the initial six months of the year, output was 9.4 percent higher in comparison to the corresponding period of the previous year. Compared to the previous month, industrial output adjusted for seasonal and workday effects was up by 1.8 percent in June.

Russian Measures have Negligible Effect

The direct effects of the Russian measures on Hungarian agricultural exports are negligible, and primarily cause actual difficulties only to enterprises that export exclusively or to a major extent to Russia. According to figures for 2013 and 2014, the products included on the list of banned imports include only a minor proportion, some 30 percent of the products we export to Russia, and represent only 1 percent of total Hungarian agricultural exports.
