The Hungarian Justice Minister takes the view that Thorbjorn Jagland, Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CE) and his team of lawyers left the meeting conducted with him on Monday in Strasbourg „in a fundamentally positive frame of mind”.
In Washington on Monday, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán held discussions with Annette Lantos –widow of the American politician of Hungarian descent Tom Lantos – and their daughter Katrina Lantos Swett, co-chair of the Executive Committee of the Tom Lantos Institute.
Hungary is observing, and will continue to observe all international norms, Minister of Justice László Trócsányi stated after he had talks with Thorbjorn Jagland, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, in Strasbourg.
Minister of Human Capacities Zoltán Balog visited refugees at the Children’s Centre in Fót, near Budapest on Sunday. The Minister was shown around the Centre by Director István Kádas and manager of the home for refugee children Zsófia Roszik, and was able see how the 70 children currently living there are doing first hand.
The Hungarian Government’s childcare policy is focused on providing children with families, Minister of Human Capacities Zoltán Balog said on Monday at the official opening of the new SOS Children’s Village in Orosháza. The village was moved there from its previous location in Battonya.
Hungary will propose in the UN that, rather than Europe alone taking its share of the management of the pressure of migration, the key players of world politics – who were parties to the decisions, in the wake of which unstable regions have evolved in the vicinity of our continent – should also take their share of the effort by virtue of the introduction of global quotas, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó told the Hungarian News Agency MTI on Monday.
“The European Council said at its last meeting that the Schengen regulations must be upheld and the EU’s external borders must be protected”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said, adding that Hungary is one of very few countries who are meeting these requirements.
In the year since the formation of the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL we have made progress on our campaign to degrade and defeat this unprecedented terrorist scourge. As we have acknowledged from the beginning, this will be a long-term campaign. But the situation one year ago was dire: ISIL, also known by its Arabic acronym Da’esh, had advanced across Iraq and was threatening Erbil, Kirkuk and Baghdad. Additional attacks against the Yezidi people appeared imminent. Since that time, despite inevitable setbacks, the Coalition has followed through on its comprehensive, strategic approach, and has proven its ability to constrain Da’esh’s freedom of movement in Iraq and Syria. The Coalition has also made progress organizing efforts to slow down ISIL’s reinforcement of fighters, counter the group’s messaging, and decrease its finances.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó will give an address at the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly and will also conduct bilateral meetings with international colleagues and business representatives. He will reopen the Consulate General of Hungary in Chicago as well.
