German daily Bild published an interview with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Saturday under the title “Why Hungary is building a fence”. Mr. Orbán said it was natural to feel sympathy towards the migrants, but also said that sympathy is not enough. “We must act”, he declared.
According to the Government Spokesperson, Minister of Human Resources Zoltán Balog has been the subject of false and contemptible attacks concerning the proceedings conducted by the Hungarian Government with regard to asylum seekers from the Near East.
Hungary will continue to fully adhere to EU law “whether our neighbours like it or not”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó told Hungarian News agency MTI on Friday.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has made an official complaint to the Austrian Ambassador to Budapest with reference to comments made by Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann in German news magazine Der Spiegel, and has summoned the Ambassador to visit the Ministry on Monday morning.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó rejected a comment from German Vice-Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel, according to which Hungary is not conforming to international conventions on immigrants, calling the statement outrageous.
“The behaviour and statements of the Austrian Chancellor are totally unworthy of a 21st century leading European politician”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said in reaction to comments by Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann published in Der Spiegel on Saturday.
This incident is especially tragic during the days before the Holy Pilgrimage, the Hajj.

The Government is doing everything in its power to prevent so-called hotspots from being established in Hungary, because “’this is not the way to handle illegal immigration”, Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács announced on Hungarian M1 television’s Friday morning “Actual Channel” programme.
