Statues of the 11th century scientist Avicenna and Hungarian physician Ignác Semmelweis were unveiled at a conference at the Tehran University of Medical Science on Tuesday, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the death of Semmelweis. At the conference Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that the two scientists are not only symbols of science, but also of friendly cooperation between Hungary and Iran.

A new era is about to begin in relations between Hungary and Iran, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in Tehran after he had talks with Eshaq Jahangiri, First Vice President of Iran, and ministers from the two countries signed several bilateral agreements – including an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation and the promotion of investment.

In a speech on Thursday delivered before an audience mostly comprised of students at the Beijing International Studies University, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that Hungarians are past masters of endurance and survival in Europe. The Prime Minister attended an unveiling ceremony for a plaque at the institution’s Hungarian Research Centre.

In Suzhou in China, the Prime Minister held bilateral talks with Prime Minister of Montenegro Milo Djukanovic and Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius. The discussions mainly focused on Montenegro’s NATO and EU membership, and the Hungarian-Lithuanian business forum planned for the beginning of next year, respectively.
