Efforts by the National Competitiveness Council already bearing results

The Government aims to promote digital services in as many fields as possible, expecting to both improve the competitiveness of service providers and reduce costs at end-users, Mihály Varga said following the third session of the National Competitiveness Council. As the Minister said, they have managed to draft amendments concerning five out of the altogether six priority areas discussed by the Council, which can be submitted to the National Assembly already this semester.
Six-year wage agreement resulted in wage growth of above 10 percent

In the first two months of 2017, KSH data show that wage growth picked up and resulted in a year-on-year wage increase of 10.3 percent, in terms of both gross and net wages, Minister for National Economy Mihály Varga said.

The German Chamber of Commerce and the Hungarian Government share a common denominator regarding the perception of Hungary’s economic opportunities and the results achieved to date. This is also reflected in the Chamber’s business survey prepared for the 23rd time this year which the Ministry regards as an important compass, the State Secretary for Economic Development and Regulation of the Ministry for National Economy said in Budapest, at the event of the German-Hungarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DUIHK).
Government submits draft legislation to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism

The Government has submitted two bills to the National Assembly, on reinforcing Hungary’s regulatory system with relation to money laundering and the financing of terrorism, and on creating full harmony with international standards. The adoption of the new legislation will greatly contribute to the protection of the Hungarian financial system from the laundering of income derived from crime, and against attempts to financially support terrorist organisations.

The article on the budget published by Index today contains erroneous and untrue information: the wage increases resolved by the Government earlier will continue in next year’s budget, the taxes levied on employment will decrease, and pensions will rise at a rate in excess of this year’s.
Seven per cent industrial growth in February

Industrial performance increased by 2.7 per cent in Hungary in February, compared with the year before, while when the effect of business days is removed from this indicator, production increased by 7 per cent. The processing industry increased in eight of its thirteen averages compared with the corresponding month of the previous year. Based on the monthly industrial production data received to date, the performance of the Hungarian industry exceeded that of the European Union’s average.
