“The Ministry for National Economy is drawing up a uniform action programme for the digitalisation of the Hungarian workforce, including several measures such as the learning of basic competencies, expanding user knowledge and reforming IT training”, the Minister of State for Labour Market and Vocational Education announced at a professional conference.
“European growth is driven by Central and Eastern Europe; a multi-geared Europe could not grow if it lost is engine. The continent can only remain competitive on the world market if it is unified”, Minister for National Economy Mihály Varga said on Friday at an informal meeting of the European Union’s Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN). New measures to promote the employment of women, young people and pensioners could lead to hundreds of thousands of people returning to the job market, the Minister told reporters.
At the end of March the cumulative deficit of the central subsystem of public finances was 198.1 billion forints, which is in line with the expectations of the Ministry for National Economy. The processes of the first quarter indicate that public finances continue to be stable, which should also remain the case with regard to the whole financial year.
Hungary’s National Assembly debates today a bill designed to close legal loopholes facilitating the avoidance of paying taxes by multinational enterprises. It is estimated that these schemes reduce fiscal revenues by EUR 50-70 each year at EU member states. Through the adoption of the bill, the National Assembly can prevent massive revenue shortfalls concerning the state budget of not only Hungary but almost 60 countries.

Thanks to the Government policy focusing on the wellbeing of families and the Hungarian economy, this year’s prospects are also positive, he added.
Favourable labour market trends have continued: in the period December 2016-February 2017, the number of people aged 15-74 years in employment rose by 130 thousand, to 4 million 372 thousand. The bulk of growth was registered in the private sector, where the corresponding growth figure was 144 thousand. The number of public work employees, on the other hand, was down by 14 thousand year-on-year, and that of people working abroad has also fallen, which fact signals a stronger primary labour market.
