Everything is in place for a successful school year, Minister of Human Resources Zoltán Balog said in Budapest on Tuesday at a teachers’ conference before the beginning of the next school year on 1 September. He added that teachers have displayed great discipline during the restructuring of the public education system, the most expansive in 25 years.

The foundation stone of a rehabilitation centre for the blind was laid on Friday in the Northwest Hungarian city of Tata; the institution that will operate as the local branch and education centre of the State Institute for the Blind from September 2015.
Government spends record amount on summer meals for children

The number of children receiving government-funded summer meals is up ten percent from last year and the Hungarian Government has spent 2.64 billion forints (EUR 8.4 million) on the summer catering programme for children, Minister of State for Social Affairs and Inclusion Károly Czibere said on Wednesday.

Ecumenical Service Held on Roma Holocaust Remembrance Day

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary the Roma Holocaust and the 5th anniversary of the murder of a Hungarian Roma woman in Kisléta, an ecumenical church service was held in Budapest on 4 August, organised by the Sant’Egidio Community. Acting in his role as Reformed Church pastor, the event was also attended by Minister of Human Resources Zoltán Balog.
