The original concept of Europe as envisaged by its founding fathers – such as Konrad Adenauer – remains valid today and also remains so for Hungary and Germany, Minister of Human Capacities Zoltán Balog said on September 19 at the 24th general meeting of the Hungarian-German Forum in Budapest.

The 11th Cinefest International Film Festival opened on Monday in the eastern Hungarian town of Miskolc, lasting through 21 September. Minister of State for Culture Péter Hoppál said at the opening ceremony that films, through their unique visual means, present the multitude and freshness of human viewpoints, while providing an insight into other cultures.

Minister of State for Sports István Simicskó attended the closing press conference of the FINA World Open Water Junior Swimming Championships held in Hungary, which was an unparalleled success. Mr. Simicskó said it was a good decision to grant Hungary the right to host, and the government proved right in making a HUF 50 million (EUR 158,000) financial contribution to the event.

Steps taken by the government have helped families reduce the costs of starting the new academic year, Minister of State for Family Affairs and Youth Katalin Novák said at a press conference on Monday. She said 730,000 pupils receive textbooks at no cost for their families.
