“The joint security plan for supervising the Balkan migration route and preventing illegal people smuggling is an important step in the fight against illegal migration”, the Ministry of Interior’s parliamentary State Secretary, Károly Kontrát told Hungarian news agency MTI following a meeting of Interior and Defence Ministers of Southeast and Central European countries in Vienna on Wednesday.

Hungary is sending new contingents of police to Serbia and Macedonia. Speaking before the 15 and 25-person units at the National Standby Police’s facility on Monday, Chief Police Commissioner Zsolt Halmosi said: “We can expect a significant increase in migration as a result of the easing weather”.

Minister of Interior Sándor Pintér led the Hungarian delegation at the “Vienna Future Dialogue” conference on 23 January 2017. The other members of the delegation included the Ministry of Interior’s Deputy State Secretary for EU and International Affairs Mátyás Hegyaljai and National Police Commissioner Lt-Gen Károly Papp. The Interior Minister’s entourage was joined in Vienna by Hungary’s Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Austria János Perényi.

The ninth contingent of Hungarian police set off for Macedonia on Monday to help local police take action against illegal immigration along the Macedonian-Greek border. Hungary will be continuously sending monthly shifts of police to Macedonia until the end of the year.
Hungarian police return from tour of duty in Serbia and Macedonia

Minister of Interior Sándor Pintér has reported to Parliament’s National Security Committee on the information currently available to the Counter-Terrorism Intelligence and Criminal Analysis Centre (TIBEK), the Counter-Terrorism Centre (TEK) and the Constitutional Protection Office (AH) concerning the incidents in Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and Turkey on 19 December 2016.
Guarding of German and Russian Embassies reinforced

Chief Police Commissioner Károly Papp has ordered the ongoing guarding of the Embassy of Germany and the German Ambassador’s residence, as well as of the reinforced and enhanced guarding of the Embassy of the Russian Federation, Tibor Lakatos, Head of Division responsible for the maintenance of public order at the National Police Headquarters announced at an extraordinary press conference held on Tuesday in Budapest.
Level of terror alert is not to be raised

On the website police.hu, the Communication Department of the National Police Headquarters has announced that, at the Police Administration Centre on Monday, Chief Commissioner of Police Károly Papp presented recognition awards for outstanding work to 134 people who participated in capturing the person suspected of detonating a bomb on Teréz Boulevard, Budapest.
