Due to the coronavirus epidemic, Hungary’s borders are being closed down to passenger traffic; the relevant international consultations are currently under way. As a result, in the future only Hungarian nationals will be allowed to enter the country’s territory, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced on Monday in Parliament in his address before the start of ordinary business.
At the press conference of the Operational Group held on Sunday in Budapest, on behalf of the Hungarian government, the Minister of State for International Communication and Relations-head of the communications task force offered his condolences and sympathy after he announced that the coronavirus epidemic had claimed its first Hungarian victim.
The elderly constitute the group of society that is most at risk from the epidemic, the Minister of State for International Communication and Relations-head of the communications task force stated at the press conference of the Operational Group held on Sunday in Budapest.
On Monday morning, the Operational Group responsible for the fight against the coronavirus had a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at the Ministry of Interior. Following the meeting, the Prime Minister consulted with virology professors about the measures necessary with a view to preventing an epidemic.
The latest government decrees and decisions which serve the containment of the coronavirus epidemic have been released in the Saturday edition of Magyar Közlöny [Hungarian Gazette].
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó discussed the epidemic situation being caused by the coronavirus with his Italian counterpart, Foreign Minister Luigi di Maio on Sunday.

Hungary continues to remain unable to let into Hungary anyone arriving from Italy, including Serbian nationals wanting to return home to Serbia, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in a video message posted on his social media account on Sunday.
On Sunday morning, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán travelled to Belgrade where he was received by President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán sent a message to Hungarians beyond the borders on the 15 March national holiday in which – in addition to the heritage of the 1848-1849 revolution and freedom fight – he also paid tribute to the 100th anniversary of the Trianon treaty, Bertalan Havasi, the Deputy State Secretary heading the Press Office of the Prime Minister informed the Hungarian news agency MTI on Sunday.
