Deputy Agriculture Minister and parliamentary State Secretary István Nagy and Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Yelena Astrakhantseva met in Moscow on 3 July to discuss the current status of agriculture and food industry cooperation, and possibilities for future cooperation.
Deputy State Secretary for International Relations Katalin Tóth from the Ministry of Agriculture represented Hungary at the 40th session of the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Conference in Rome. The main topic of discussion at the forum for the organisation’s highest level decision-makers was the relationship between climate change, agriculture and food security.
The National Consultation was concluded at the end of May. The Government planned a six-week post consultation campaign divided into two phases, and accordingly the second phase will end on 15 July in accordance with the original plan.
Hungary fully endorses the EU’s efforts targeting tax evasion; however, the Government of Hungary recommends the European Commission’s recently presented draft to be reconsidered, as this would eventually lead to disproportionate administrative burdens for enterprises, Minister for National Economy Mihály Varga said at the latest Ecofin session in Brussels. The finance ministers of EU countries have also discussed a report of non-performing loans. The proportion of so-called bad loans has been declining in Hungary, thanks among others to the phasing-out of forex loans, the Minister noted.
In May 2017 and in the initial five months of 2017, the industrial sector posted output growth of 8.8 percent and 5.7 percent, respectively, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. Thus, Hungarian data have beaten corresponding EU averages. Since January 2010, the sector’s output has been up by 33.8 percent, and since the beginning of 2014 it has increased by 17.2 percent in Hungary.
According to Minister of National Development Miklós Seszták, the organisers are providing everything to ensure that the FINA World Aquatics Championships beginning in Hungary on Friday will be perfect.
The Hungarian Government will be sending a written reply to the European Commission this week concerning the infringement proceedings launched by Brussels with relation to the fact that Hungary is refusing to implement the EU directives on quotas, Deputy Justice Minister Pál Völner said in a statement for Hungarian daily Magyar Idők.
“In view of the fact that Bosnia-Hercegovina plays an extremely important role in the stability of the Western Balkan region, it is also in Hungary’s national security interests for Bosnia to make progress with regard to its EU and NATO integration”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó told Hungarian news agency MTI during an informal meeting of Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) foreign ministers in Austria on Tuesday.
“It is time for the eastern and western halves of Europe to give up political correctness and hypocrisy, and to begin working together to combat the threat of terrorism so that we can protect Europe”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó told Hungarian news agency MTI during an informal meeting of Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) foreign ministers in Austria.
“The Government supports the stricter regulation of non-governmental organisations that ‘taxi’ migrants, but says no to ideas according to which pressure on Italy should be reduced by forcing mandatory transfers and resettlements onto member states”, Deputy Interior Minister Károly Kontrát said in a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI on Tuesday.
