“Police apprehended one hundred and twenty eight illegal border crossers within the territory of Hungary between Friday and Sunday”, the National Police Headquarters informed Hungarian news agency MTI on Monday.
“Cooperation between the countries of the Visegrád Group (V4) is the strongest and most effective within the European Union, and has become a worldwide brand”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said on Kossuth Radio’s “Sunday Papers” program.
“Everything always reminds Martin Schultz, leader of the German social democrats (SPD), about Hungary, whereas he would do better to be concerned about his own party in view of the fact that they have suffered defeats on a total of three regional elections”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó told Hungarian news agency MTI in reaction to statements on Hungary by the German politician.
According to the Prime Minister’s Chief Security Advisor, the security of the European Union cannot be guaranteed without the strict protection of the border.
At a press conference in Brussels on Friday, after the two-day summit of EU Member States’ leaders, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán was asked about a speech he had delivered earlier in the week at the ceremonial inauguration of a renovated building dedicated to the memory of Hungary’s interwar minister of culture Kuno Klebelsberg. Mr. Orbán said “I stand by every word” of the speech.
According to Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács, we should be agreeing on things with regard to which there is a consensus among member states, according to the original spirit of the European Union.
“V4 cooperation provides a good opportunity for Eastern European countries to be treated as equal partners”, Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács explained on Hungarian M1 television’s Thursday evening current affairs program.
After Friday’s summit meeting Viktor Orbán said that the main achievement of the EU leaders’ summit in Brussels was related to strengthening the European Union’s defence capability. The Prime Minister said that there was full agreement on this, and all the Member States declared their desire to participate in the emerging system.
“German aviation industry supplier Diehl Aircabin is expanding its existing capacities in Nyírbátor with an investment of some 37 billion forints (EUR 120M), towards which the Hungarian Government is providing 1.38 billion forints in funding”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced.
“Another motorway link is required along the Hungarian-Croatian border”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó and Chairman of Croatian Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee Miro Kovač agreed following a meeting on Friday. Accordingly, Croatia will also be striving to enable the realisation of the M6 motorway by 2020.
