Tolerance towards others, other cultures and other religions can only extend so far as it allows us to preserve ourselves, our communities, our culture and our way of life, János Lázár said at a conference held on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of the Diet of Torda of 1568 pronouncing religious freedom.
Deputy State Secretary for EU Affairs Balázs Molnár had talks with Director General for EU Affairs Ioannis Metaxas on 9 March 2018 in Athens. During the meeting the parties discussed the most important issues on the agenda of the European Union, the Posted Workers Directive and the Mobility Pack, migration, the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), cohesion policy and the European pillar of social rights.
In Hungary’s opinion, security and economic competitiveness are the most important factors in the European Union’s budget plan for period 2020-2026. This was the position represented by two Ministers of State at a ministerial-level conference on the EU’s long-term financial framework organised by the current Bulgarian presidency of the Council of the European Union in Sofia.

At the meeting the parties reviewed the challenges caused by migration, their proposals regarding the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), the most important social and employment policy issues on the agenda of the European Union, Brexit and the status of Western Balkans enlargement.

Hungary does not only observe its obligations as a member of the EU, but also significantly contributes to the security of the whole of the EU, Minister of State Szabolcs Takács highlighted. Hungary should be given by the EU all grants in connection with the protection of its borders that it is entitled to under the common regulations; talks between the government and the European Commission began today in the spirit of this principle.
“To be Hungarian is a duty, and is also a mission, to preserve the nation”, the Deputy Prime Minister for National Policy said on Tuesday in Budapest. “Hungarian citizenship is something that every Hungarian is entitled to, no matter where they live in the world”, he declared.
Hungary believes the time has come for European solidarity to be manifested in border protection as well, namely for the European Union to make a contribution to the extraordinary expenditures incurred by Hungary which also serve common European interests, Takács Szabolcs, Minister of State for EU Affairs at the Prime Minister’s Office said in a telephone interview given to the Hungarian news agency on Monday.
For a long time the Hungarian government has consistently shared the view that the future of the European Union is guaranteed if it returns to its foundations, and as part of these foundations Member States must continuously manifest respect and understanding towards one another, Minister of State for EU Affairs Szabolcs Takács said on Monday in the Parliament Building.
