The Visegrád Group’s Environment Ministers attended a two-day meeting in the Czech town of Lednice. Hungary was represented at the discussions by the Ministry of Agriculture’s Minister of State for Environmental Affairs Zsolt V. Németh.
The most serious current problem in European agriculture, i.e. the crisis situation that has developed on the milk, pork and sugar markets, was the topic of last week’s meeting of Visegrád Group (V4) Agriculture Ministers in Prague, at which Hungary was represented by Minister of Agriculture Sándor Fazekas.
Increasing Chinese market demand for excellent quality, GMO-free Hungarian products was the main topic of today’s meeting between Chinese Ambassador Duan Jielong and Minister of Agriculture Sándor Fazekas.
“Together, the Visegrád Group can represent our common interests more effectively and can play a proactive role within the European Union”, Deputy Minister of Agriculture István Nagy said during a meeting with Chairman of the Czech Agricultural Committee Jaroslav Faltýnek.
“The Hungarian agrarian industry fully conforms to the strategic goals of industrial development, for example Hungarian raw materials are available for its activities, as is the technical and technological knowledge and expertise required for its development”, the Minister of State for Economic Development and Regulation at the Ministry for National Economy said on Thursday in Budapest.
The Hungarian Minister of Agriculture travelled to the German capital to attend the 81st International Green Week agriculture expo, where Hungarian food industry exhibitors are working to reinforce the market presence of the whole sector.
Minister of Agriculture Sándor Fazekas told Hungarian news agency MTI in an assessment of the sector’s performance over the past year that “Hungarian agriculture performed well in 2015, despite difficult conditions”.
Hungary is expected to submit a request to have chimney cake be designated a traditional speciality product within the European Union at the end of the first quarter of next year, the Ministry of Agriculture’s Deputy State Secretary for Origin Protection announced at a press conference in Budapest on Monday.
On 14 December 2015, EU Ministers of Agriculture met in Brussels to discuss the strategic directions of agricultural research and innovation and the related framework programme. The Hungarian delegation was led by Deputy Secretary of State for Agricultural Economy Dr. Zsolt Feldman.
In Budapest Minister of State for Environmental Affairs, Agrarian Development and Hungaricums at the Ministry of Agriculture Zsolt V. Németh said that “HUF 2,800 billion (EUR 8.9 billion) is available for environmental protection and conservation during the 2014-2020 programming period, 500bn more than in the previous cycle”.
