High-level UN Strategy Forum on South-South and Triangular Cooperation

A UN High-level Meeting on South-South and triangular cooperation, which serves as a forum for sharing knowledge and experience with developing countries, was held in Macao, China on August 25-26. The meeting was organised jointly by the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation, the Chinese Government and the Municipality of Macao. The meeting was attended by representatives of some 100 countries, several relevant UN organisations (FAO, IFAD, UNDP, UNOSSC, WHO, ILO) and a high-level OECD delegation.

Joint Declaration on GMO-free Agriculture

Agriculture ministers and other officials attending a summit in the Slovenian city of Ptuj, including the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture’s Parliamentary State Secretary, István Nagy, have signed a joint declaration on keeping Europe’s agriculture free of genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

Hungary spends more on environmental protection than Austria or Germany

In an interview with public news channel M1 on Sunday, Minister of State for Environmental Affairs, Agricultural Development and Hungaricums Zsolt V. Németh said that Hungary spends more money on environmental protection than Austria or Germany, and emphasised that this is also the goal for the coming years.

U.S. satisfied with Hungarian food safety system

After two years, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has again held inspections in Hungary. A representative of the FSIS audited the monitoring system of Hungary’s animal-based food producers between 17 June and 3 July. According to the preliminary findings of the audit, the Hungarian food safety system assures full compliance with U.S. requirements.
