Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to discuss migration issue with heads of the EU on Thursday

On Thursday Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will take part in talks in Brussels on the crisis situation caused by migration. He will hold meetings with President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, with President of the European Council Donald Tusk and with President of the European People’s Party Joseph Daul.

Migration crisis must be addressed outside EU borders

A policy on migrants flowing into the EU which focuses on distributing them among Member States according to quotas is mistaken. Instead, efforts to curb the migration of our modern era which is leading to a critical situation must be made outside the EU. This was the message which Péter Szijjártó had for Hungarian journalists on Monday in Brussels, where he was attending talks on a number of topics, including migration.

Austrian Chancellor’s statement is disappointing and incomprehensible

It is disappointing and incomprehensible that the leader of a neighbouring country should talk in this vein about an issue which is causing Hungary as well as Europe immense difficulties amounting to an historic challenge. The Ambassador of Austria to Hungary has therefore been summoned to the Ministry for this afternoon, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó told the Hungarian News Agency MTI on Tuesday in response to the words of Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann.

Further millions could set off for Europe

Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office János Lázár has said that Europe and Hungary must prepare for further millions of people setting off for Europe. We need sustainable long-term measures, he emphasised. He also emphasised that approximately ninety per cent of migrants arriving at the Hungarian border are doing so through organised acts of human smuggling, the Minister explained.

Hungary has taken over airspace defence of Baltic countries

Hungary will be in charge of the protection of the airspace of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania for a period of four months as of 1 September as part of NATO’s Baltic Air Policing mission. At the official rotation ceremony, which was attended by Defence Minister Csaba Hende, Hungary took over the mission at the Siauliai Air Base in Lithuania from Norway and Italy.

Wizz Air’s new maintenance hangar inaugurated

The new maintenance hangar constructed as a HUF 1bn investment at Liszt Ferenc International Airport was inaugurated in Budapest on 31 August, 2015. At the inauguration ceremony Minister of National Development Miklós Seszták emphasised it was Hungary’s fundamental interest to increase its competitiveness at the aviation market and provide services of proper quality, for which the inauguration of the new hangar could be considered a milestone. In addition to increasing competitiveness, the hangar would ensure an enhanced role for Hungary in aviation.
