Thanks to a joint Hungarian-German initiative, on 17 July 2017 the agriculture ministers of Austria, Finland, France, Greece, Holland, Croatia, Poland, Luxembourg, Hungary, Italy, Germany, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia officially signed the European Soy Declaration at Hungary’s Permanent Representation in Brussels.
“There is significant international interests in Hungarian agricultural research results, and not just in neighbouring countries, but for instance there is also demand in Central Asia, for instance, for the new Hungarian wheat varieties that Hungarian researchers have developed to adapt to new climate conditions”, Minister of Agriculture Sándor Fazekas said at a press conference in Budapest.
“Export opportunities to countries outside the EU are very promising”, Minister of Agriculture Sándor Fazekas said on Hungarian M1 television’s and Kossuth Radio’s morning programs.
Within the framework of the High Level Strategic Cooperation Council headed by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Minister of Agriculture Sándor Fazekas held talks with Turkish Minister of Food Agriculture and Livestock Faruk Çelik and Minister of Forestry and Water Veysel Eroğlu.
“Favourable processes have begun in recent years in Hungarian agriculture and the Hungarian food industry, and the sector is continuously gaining strength, which is also mirrored in its foreign trade figures. Agriculture exports were 8037 million euros in 2016, 38 percent more than in 2010”, the Minister of Agriculture said in parliament in reply to a question in Parliament.
“37.4 billion forints (EUR 121M) will be used for realising conservation goals until 2020 within the framework of the Environmental and Energy Efficiency Operational Programme and the Competitive Central Hungary Operational Programme”, the Ministry of Agriculture’s Deputy State Secretary for the Environment said in Eger.
“Every second Hungarian has experienced differences in the quality of foods of the same make that are available in both Western Europe and Hungary”, it has transpired from a representative survey conducted by experts from the National Food Chain Safety Office (NFCSO). In harmony with the efforts of the Government and the Ministry of Agriculture, an overwhelming majority of the population expects international food products to be distributed with the same contents in every country, and if this is not the case, then for it to be compulsory to clearly indicate this fact to consumers.

Deputy Agriculture Minister and parliamentary State Secretary István Nagy and Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Yelena Astrakhantseva met in Moscow on 3 July to discuss the current status of agriculture and food industry cooperation, and possibilities for future cooperation.
Deputy State Secretary for International Relations Katalin Tóth from the Ministry of Agriculture represented Hungary at the 40th session of the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Conference in Rome. The main topic of discussion at the forum for the organisation’s highest level decision-makers was the relationship between climate change, agriculture and food security.
