Strengthening bilateral relations essential for competitiveness

Decision on EU grants for Hungarian transport development worth HUF 150 bn expected this summer

In the first round, Hungary is to apply for Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) funds with 17 transport development investments. The investments with total costs of HUF 150 bn, submitted in early March 2015, include the construction of the Danube bridge in Komárom, the modernisation of the railway line between Kelenföld and Százhalombatta, the development of water transport security and the establishment of the first liquidised natural gas (LNG) fuelling stations in Hungary.

Efficient internal energy market requires infrastructure connecting Member States’ energy systems

Hungary has made the necessary steps for the construction of the infrastructures ensuring bi-directional natural gas transport in the region. In addition, the country has not only attained but even surpassed the target set by the European Union according to which the electricity cross-border transmission capacity must reach at least 10% of the total built in electricity production in every EU state by 2020, Minister of State for Energy Affairs András Aradszki said at the session of the Energy Council in Brussels on 5 March, 2015.

EU funding of HUF 2,000 billion for transport, environmental and energy efficiency developments

In mid February, the European Commission approved both Hungarian Operational Programmes worked out under the supervision of the Ministry of National Development. Within the Integrated Transport Development Operational Programme (ITOP) and the Environment and Energy Efficiency Operational Programme (EEEOP), funding in total of more than HUF 2,000 bn can be applied for in 2014-2020.

By signing today’s agreement we consolidate a most valuable alliance, raising it to a new level, since scientific and technological development based on space activity may become one of the most important engines of value creation in Hungary, too, in the coming decades, Minister of State for Info-communication and Consumer Protection Ákos Kara said in Budapest on 24 February, 2015, on the occasion that Hungary joined the European Space Agency as a full-fledged member.

Road toll system to be amended at several points

While reinforcing the theoretical foundation of the system, the government decided to make several changes in relation with the road toll system. According to the announcement made by János Fónagy, county vignettes will be valid up to the first exit ramp after a county border instead of the last one before the border as of 1 February, 2015, and there will be several new toll-free sections as well.

The meeting held in Lima on 1-12 December, 2014 focused on shaping a new agreement on global climate protection.
