The European Commission has approved Hungary’s Rural Development Programme for the period between 2014-2020. According to Miklós Zsolt Kis, State Secretary for Agricultural and Rural Development at the Prime Minister’s Office, the Government has had a series of difficult consultations and talks, but has succeeded in protecting the interests of Hungarian farmers and the Hungarian provinces against Brussels on the most important issues.
János Lázár, the Minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office described the meeting held with the leaders of the Alliance of Hungarian Jewish Faith Communes (Mazsihisz) on Tuesday in Budapest, in preparation for the Jewish Community Roundtable to be held on Wednesday, as constructive.
At a press conference in Budapest on Wednesday, Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács announced that the construction of the temporary border barrier is continuing at full speed; 364 soldiers and 112 public workers are currently working in 13 teams.
In Parliament on Wednesday Deputy Prime Minister responsible for Hungarian Communities Abroad Zsolt Semjén received 55 Hungarian children from Transcarpathia. Following the reception, he urged Hungarians from Transcarpathia to assume Hungarian citizenship.
Roma people must be assisted in their advancement, Secretary of State Szabolcs Ferenc Takács of the Prime Minister’s Office said on Sunday at the commemoration organised by the Roma Civic Association (RPT) at the Roma Historical, Cultural, Educational and Holocaust Centre on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of the Roma Holocaust.
Speaking at the “Magyarság Háza” building in Budapest on Monday at the launch of the education week of the Petőfi Sándor Programme to assist dispersed Hungarian communities in the Carpathian Basin, Minister of State for National Policy Árpád János Potápi pointed out that we must do everything possible to halt population decline in dispersed Hungarian communities, and to reverse the process.
Following the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács told public news channel M1 that the Government will increase the amount allocated for the construction of the temporary border barrier and for the temporary placement of migrants by HUF 22.2 billion.
The development policy of the period between 2014-2020 may be regarded as successful if there are 5 million jobs, that is, 800,000 more jobs in Hungary by 2020 than there are at present, and if the country is able to build and develop its industries which promote the growth of the economy, Deputy State Secretary for Development Policy Communication Nándor Csepreghy said.
On Tuesday Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács told national news channel M1 that by the end of the year as many as 250–300,000 immigrants might have arrived in Hungary, which is why the country needs the security barrier on its southern border.
According to Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács, an overwhelming majority of the over one million respondents in the national consultation on immigration agree with the questionnaire’s statements.
